Born on the east side of Mt. Kenya in a large family, Maurice was brought up in a livestock and crop farming home before pursuing a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nairobi (graduating in the Class of 2013). Currently, he is doing his MSc in Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health at the Royal veterinary college (RVC). He is a member of Kenya Veterinary Association (KVA) and registered with Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB).
He is working as a Research Technician at the International Livestock Research Institute, based with the MRC ESEI “Urban Zoo” project. He is working on the economics thread part of the study which involves mapping and understanding livestock value chains operating in Nairobi. He is also involved in understanding food safety risks, sampling from livestock and food retailers, and in digital data management for the project.
Previously he had been working as an intern in the same project. Outside professional work he is an amateur footballer and an avid science journal reader.
